Rivera figure grabbed by Delaware lawmen

Delaware County Daily Times (Primos - Upper Darby, PA) - Tuesday, November 16, 1999

The homeless companion of a Chester woman who spent time with Robert Rivera and his daughter the day of the toddler's kidnapping has the same jailhouse address as Rivera since his arrest on a fugitive warrant.

Stephen M. Rechner, 21, was with Michele Lupi at a pharmacy on Marsh Road in Delaware when he was taken into custody on Nov. 8."

They think he has knowledge to where Katelyn is," Lupi said last night of authorities leading the missing person's investigation. "He doesn't know anything about that."

According to district court records and Lupi , Rechner was wanted by authorities in New Castle, Del., stemming from a March 31, 1999 burglary.

Rechner was committed to the county prison after he failed to post 10 percent of $50,000 bail set by District Justice Leonard M. McDevitt.

A Dec. 8 extradition hearing is scheduled at the Media Courthouse.
